Dentures

Smiling older patient in dental chair as hygienist demonstrates how he should brush his dentures Have you ever wondered how people get their teeth back after losing most or all of them? Dentures are the answer. Over 120 million Americans have lost at least one tooth. When people lose their teeth, the empty spaces can cause your facial muscles to sag and give you an odd appearance. Whether you lost your teeth from natural causes, decay, injuries, or trauma, Capitol Square Dental offers the best options of denture services to help you restore your oral vigor and freshness.

What Are Dentures?

Dentures are artificial teeth and gums. It is an appliance made to fit a patient's mouth to replace missing teeth. They are removable replacements for missing teeth as well as the gum tissues around them. Depending on your oral condition, you might need complete dentures or partial dentures. After the necessary assessment of your mouth and teeth, our professionals will help you decide which is best for you. Whichever one is required, it has to be customized to fit your mouth alone. Losing teeth should never be the end of your confident smile. With dentures, you can have multiple options of returning your abilities to chew and talk well.

What Are Complete Dentures?

Complete dentures are also known as full sets. They are meant for patients who do not have any teeth. The loss of teeth may have been of natural causes or from medical conditions. Complete dentures are designed to give the appearance of a full set of teeth. Designed to be removable, the plates and fittings that form the dentures will be completely hidden from sight, so you do not have to worry. Complete dentures can be done as conventional or immediate dentures.

With conventional complete dentures, the teeth and gum tissues are allowed to heal following an extraction. This might take a few weeks. Once the gums have healed and are set, then the conventional dentures are placed. Immediate dentures are made before the teeth are removed. They are placed as soon as the teeth are removed. This way, the patient does not have to be without teeth. However, as the gums continue to heal, they will shrink to set and the patient will have to come in again for adjustments.

What Are Partial Dentures?

If you still have some of your natural teeth, then you might be able to get partial dentures. Usually, they are a set of artificial teeth on a plate designed to mimic the gum. They could also be done as a metal structure that holds the required amount of teeth to be placed. With this option, you still keep your natural teeth. They are also designed to be removable for easy cleaning.

Caring for Your Dentures

Whichever type of denture you require, they should be handled with great care and treated as instructed by our professionals. They should be cleaned regularly, while your mouth should also be cleaned daily to ensure that plaque and bacteria do not gather. To preserve them, they should be removed from your mouth before sleeping. This way your gums can relax and you will not run the risk of damaging your dentures.
